“Foxfire’s good life”
September 27, 2007
The following quote comes from the book Foxfire, by Joyce Carol Oates: “Legs saying, whispering, hugging her FOXFIRE sisters as they were hugging her, the five of them there in the parking lot at the rear of 2883 Branch Street, giddy, crazy-elated, half to disbelief, –we got him. The rest is gonna be easy.” (pg 298)
When i first read this quote, i thought to myself that it was a stupid quote. I didn’t think it made any sense because most things in life don’t come easy. I started to think about life in general and how that things that i work hard for i appreciate more. I thought back to my childhood. When i was younger and my grandparents would give me money, I would thank them, but it wouldn’t really mean anything to me. If i worked for it by mowing the lawn, or by doing my chores for a week. Working for money makes people appreciate it for the most part. If a person is filthy rich and they make more money, then it might not appreciate it so much, compared to someone who isn’t all that rich and they earn a few extra dollars. It is a great feeling knowing that you worked for what you have, instead of just being handed it. Good things in life aren’t easy to obtain, it takes hard work and sacrifice to get what you really want.
Youtube Class
September 19, 2007
I just recently found out that my past post was completely blank. Kind of annoying, but o well… guess I’ll write it again. This link shows a college class learning about the ever popular website youtube. When i first watched this I couldn’t believe my eyes. An actual course giving credit, teaching kids about youtube and what people can do on the website. This idea of learning about a website shocked me also, I wondered what you could possibly learn about a website. The class involves kids making clips and posting them on youtube. Now if you ask most people I bet they wouldn’t think about getting credit for a class on youtube. Then again with today’s new technology there are many changes compared to what college used to be and what it is today. Writing this blog gets me points for class, also the chatzy chatroom is another new piece of technology. Now that i think aboout it, maybe this is the new way of life, or college. Maybe in the future kids will have class while sitting in their dorms. It makes me ask myself, is that the good life. Not having to move for class, is that really that fun. the answer is YEAH IT IS. I wouldn’t mind not having to move for class. Then again kids might get fatter as a result of less movement. There is a positive and a negative for all aspects of life. It makes you question the good life, are we experiencing it, or is the good life for future generations who will experience the new forms of technology that will be invented.
Cops… friends or foe.
September 13, 2007
“Cops Gone Wild” is a great story that makes tons of sense. How far can and should an officer go to check a person for an illegal substance? In this video, a boy eggs on a cop and the cop answers back. The cop checks the kid because he says to the cop somethin like it is not my business to discuss this issue with you. In ordered to live a good life, people need to know and be informed about their rights. If a cop is going against a persons rights, the person being violated should have enough common sense to say to themselves and the cop, hey wait a minute you can’t do that. The problem in todays society is that people trust too many people. There have been numerous stories about cops going and beating a person for the littlest reason, if any. Cops are humans too, they make mistakes. A way to avoid this is to be well informed. Having information there by your side can make a bad situation a little better. Taking the time now to look at your rights can help save you if you are ever in this kind of situation.
Cell Phones Are Squashed
September 7, 2007
Cellphones and PDAs Banned in Island Resorts is a very interesting blog. It starts off with talking about vacation for families, but then leads into disruptions on vacation.
“Thinking about heading for the beach on your next vacation, catching a couple of rays, and maybe making a business call or two before the tide comes in? Well, if you were planning on a trip to the renowned resort of Palm Island — located in the Caribbean — you might want to start considering a serious change of plans. According to recent reports, the tropical destination just put the kibosh on the use of mobile phones, PDAs, or laptops within a half-mile of the island’s Casarina Beach, effectively squashing your dreams of million-dollar deals and an “all over” tan.”
I think this is a very smart idea. When people are on vacation i believe that they want to be relaxed and sort of forget about life for a week or two. Having noisy people talking on cell phones and pda’s isn’t very relaxing to some people who just want to relax. I think more and more vacation spots will start doing this as more and more people get frustrated with listening to a business call while trying to eat breakfast.
Eng 105 Sec L11 Chris Benoit
September 7, 2007
I think the blog Bowtie Blogs brings up an interesting point. The blog talks about the death of Chris Benoit, and how or what made him do it. After recent study doctors have come to the conclusion that it was either steriod overdoes or a few too many concusions in the ring. The news of course has to report on this because it is a big issue. The thing is though, This blog i just read brings up an interesting fact. He says that in blogs the writer usually gives an biased opinion, while in the news they always give unbiased opinion. The reason being is that the news wants people to still listen to what they have to say even after they reported it. By giving an unclear answer as to why Chris Benoit killed his family, people will tend to keep listening to the story. People will still tune in and watch the news hoping that there is a clear answer.
